For centuries Fforest Uchaf Farm has nestled quietly on its
lofty perch on the mountainside above Treforest and watched the world go by.
Separated from the University of Glamorgan campus by a thin ribbon of private
woodlands that are the remains of the ancient Forest of Glyn Taf, which once
covered a huge area. A rich and diverse wildlife hustle and bustle their lives
away unaffected by the rat race, or industrial and technological revolutions
that happened in the valley.
Nowadays the Farm is a working small holding and home to the
Fforest Uchaf Horse and Pony Rehabilitation Centre, a registered charity in
Wales, providing tender loving care for horses and ponies in need. The Centre
has ponies of all shapes and sizes; many came from a background of misery
and mistreatment. However, the life on the high pastures soon has their physical
condition improved.
The Farm has many animals on its hillside pastures and boasts
no amusements or electronic wizardry, just a simple life at a steady pace.
Visitors may like a quiet walk in the fields to take time out and see the
ponies grazing and playing in the sun, or walk the paths just touching the
woodland home of rare and diverse wildlife. Perhaps time to picnic and sit
by the pond and watch the life going on underwater or maybe see the wild buzzards
soaring on the thermals. Time perhaps to ponder life's problems in the quiet
of the countryside and dream of the life-style of a time gone by.
Fforest Uchaf Horse and Pony Rehabilitation Centre is a Charity
registered with the Charity Commissioners (Registered Charity No 1002933)
to provide a safe haven and Tender Loving Care for horses and ponies who have
suffered through neglect, ignorance or cruelty, or find themselves in need
through other causes. Some of the ponies in our care have special problems
and are unlikely to ever leave the centre.
